About

Power Warp is the tale of young Tori Derrot and her journey through a wormhole into the more technologically advanced and civalized regions of the universe. She is transported onto the world of Solitia, where she befriends Hank Doyle, a space pirate. He offers to take her home to Earth under one condition... that she join Roxann's gang of pirates and steal enough booty to earn her way!

In the civalized universe, Earth is an experiment planet-- an experiment gone horribly wrong. The Universal Monarchicial Government placed microorganisms on Earth's surface when the world was still young. A colony on Mars was a scientific government spot as much as it was a tourist spot. When Earth's new sentient lifeforms began evolution into early humans, certain faction on the Mars colony invaded and interrupted the virgin cycle. The colonists induced evolution into what man is now, they taught man things well before their time and they introduced a totally new concept... religion. It got out of hand and non-government was banned from Earth's star system. Mars was nuked of evidence of their being their and abandoned for over a thousand years. The only memories the Earthers remember of those days are the legends and sacred texts of the "gods and goddesses" who left them. To this day the government continues the experiment, tagging Earth humans and using them as guinea pigs. They are even in league with some of Earth's governments...the more powerful ones. After learning this important part of Earth's history, Tori is forced to rethink the timetold question, "What is the meaning of our existence?"

She visits many planets on her travels, with many familiar faces. It seems like every planet in the universe got to put a little bit of their culture into the Earth at some point in time or the other. However, whenever Tori goes to a new planet, she seems to have a knack for making someone high up very mad at her. It could have something to do with the fact she's a space pirate, but she always seems to rub them the wrong way. Soon her life is threatened by bounty hunter! And when her greed risks her job... will she ever get back home to Earth? Or will she stay partners with Hank forever... or maybe even more than that?

In this comic by a budding artist, the story covers the following genres: science fiction, action/adventure, philosophy, comedy, and even a little bit of romance.

Inspiration

The Star Wars influence is apparent. In fact, the main characters first stared their debut in a Star Wars Fan Fiction I was coming up with when I was in 5th grade where Tori is sucked into the Star Wars universe and meets childlike versions of some of the main characters in Star Wars. Star Wars was all I could daydream about... I nutured the ideas of the adventures my characters had until they literally became a part of me. In December 2003, I decided to strip it of its Star Wars heritage and give it its own universe... my universe. The plot elements I had thought of stood it up on one wobbly leg, and then planning gave it its steady second. Of course, I couldn't take all the Star Wars influence out of it. Hank, Lance, and Chase were all named based on the Star Wars characters Han, Lando, and Chewbacca respectively, though the only character based on a Star Wars character was Hank. It was too late to change their names, it had become a part of them and it's like a thank you to Star Wars for opening my imagination, to daydream.

I wanted to make a space odyssey story that would explain our origins and travel to new worlds like on Star Trek, but still have pirate action like sci-fi anime Tenchi and Vandread and the Hank Solo novels. I wouldn't consider Power Warp to be a wholly original peice just because the the birth of it, but is anything really original? What do you think? Has my fan fiction become my fiction?
